Child Dedication
We’re excited to know that you’re interested in dedicating your child to the Lord. Child Dedication is a public celebration for parents who desire to raise their children in the ways of Christ. Psalm 127:3 states, “Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.” Child Dedication offers our church family an opportunity to celebrate and thank God for the gift of your children. As parents, you are committing to model Jesus and to raise your children to understand that they are saved only through faith in Jesus Christ, to believe and live out the absolute truths found in the Bible, and to recognize the importance of being part of a church family.
Your commitment as A parent
During the dedication ceremony, we ask parents to promise before God, their family, and the church to raise their child in a God-honoring way. As the key role models for their children, we ask parents to commit to the following before dedicating their child:
- Parent(s) have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Parent(s) are regular attenders of New Life Assembly services and are following Christ in their own life.
- Parent(s) agree with our church’s beliefs and values, which can be found in our Statement of Beliefs.
- Parent(s) commit to modeling personal purity and to lead by example in matters of faith and conduct. That means living a life of sexual purity according to God's standards.
Questions Parents Have
Do I need to be a member to dedicate my child?
Being a member of New Life Assembly is not necessary to dedicate your child. We do want you to call New Life "Home," because in dedicating your child to God, you're communicating you willingness to partner with God and the Church to raise your child in cooperation with God’s plans and purposes for both you and your child. As your church family, we're committed to come alongside you as the body of Christ and support you as a family unit.
Can a single parent choose to dedicate their child?
Yes! This step of faith signifies the commitment of parents, including single parents, to do all they can to raise their child in becoming fully committed to Christ. If you have some key figures in your child's life you would want to be part of the dedication, we encourage you to include them in this mileston moment. As a church, we're committed to supporting single parents in providing a Christian foundation for their child’s journey ahead.
At what age shoud I consider child dedication?
Whenever you are ready for that. It's about the meaning of what child dedication means rather than the age of a child. You can dedicate your child to God when they are just a few weeks old or are already a teenager. It's not uncommon for parents to dedicate their children of all ages at the same time, especially if the parents have come to faith after having children.
Does this dedication signify salvation or baptism for my child?
No. The dedication ceremony is a time when parents call upon God’s blessing for their child while publicly committing to raise him or her in accordance with Scripture. Child Dedication is not so much focused on the now but on how parents and the Church enter into an agreement to help a child make choices to honor God in the future. New Life Assembly believes baptism is an additional celebration for those who have made a personal decision to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior, once they have matured as a person and can fully understand what Salvation through Jesus is all about.
